Poverty Game
Do you want to find out more about what it’s like to try to get through one month on welfare? We welcome you to participate in the Poverty Game.
The game is designed to give participants an idea of the experience living on social assistance and to replicate the experience of trying to get from month to month on a fixed and limited income. The object of the game is to get through the month able to meet your monthly bills and expenses. Participants take on the role of a person receiving social assistance and are given life scenarios to create the experience of being on ‘welfare’. The game is played in groups and is designed as an education tool for learning more about the issues of poverty and confronting our own pre-conceived ideas. We facilitate the game for large and small groups.
Who should participate:
Teachers, social service workers, private sector workers, students, lawyers, politicians and anyone seeking more of an understanding or to further develop their knowledge of the issues related with poverty and economic exclusion.
There are several options for facilitating the game including a full-day or half-day workshop. Please contact Joanne or Brigitte at (416)787-1481 for more info on fees and game options.
